The Regina International Film Festival & Awards (RIFFA) proudly honours the memory of The Honourable Vaughn Solomon Schofield, CM, SOM, whose distinguished career in business, public service, community leadership, and provincial service left a lasting impact on Saskatchewan and Canada. As RIFFA’s Patron and a member of its Board of Directors, she provided valued guidance, support, and advocacy for the arts, culture, and community engagement.
Mrs. Solomon Schofield was a respected business leader, public servant, and volunteer whose contributions spanned local, national, and international organizations. Prior to her appointment as Saskatchewan’s 21st Lieutenant Governor, she served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Western Group of Companies, a business real estate organization with interests throughout Western Canada.
A dedicated supporter of the Canadian Armed Forces, Mrs. Solomon Schofield served as Provincial Chair of the Canadian Forces Liaison Council and as Honourary Colonel of both the 10th Field Artillery Regiment and The Service Battalion. In recognition of her longstanding commitment to Canada’s military community, she received the Canadian Forces Medallion for Distinguished Service.
During the 1980s, she chaired a 200,000-member crime prevention organization and travelled extensively throughout North and South America helping establish Crime Watch groups. Fluent in English and Spanish, she worked with the Government of Guayaquil, Ecuador, to establish a local Crime Watch program and served as an interpreter. She also hosted a crime prevention television program in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for four years and was twice named Florida’s Crime Prevention Woman of the Year.
Throughout her life, Mrs. Solomon Schofield served on numerous municipal, provincial, and federal boards and commissions. She served as Saskatchewan’s 21st Lieutenant Governor from March 2012 to March 2018 and, in that role, also served as Chancellor of the Saskatchewan Order of Merit. Following her vice-regal service, she continued her commitment to public service as Chair of the Saskatchewan Police Commission and as a member of the SaskPower Board of Directors.
Her many contributions were recognized through numerous honours, including the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal (2005), Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal (2009), Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012), Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal (2022), and the King Charles III Coronation Medal (2024).
Born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan, Mrs. Solomon Schofield studied at the University of Saskatchewan Regina Campus and the Rae-Vogue School in Chicago. Together with her late husband, Gordon Schofield, she built a life rooted in service, leadership, and community. She is survived by her children and grandchildren, whose lives continue to reflect her values and legacy.
RIFFA remains deeply grateful for Mrs. Solomon Schofield’s friendship, leadership, and support. Her legacy continues to inspire our organization and the communities she served throughout her remarkable life.
