The fashion industry has always been an integral part of film festivals and awards ceremonies and we take a bow to Edge Agency for their leadership and contribution to RIFFA’s Red Carpet Event.

RIFFA’s Red Carpet Event is that and much more! It is the arrival of guests, film celebrities, jury members, award presenters, sponsors and entertainers. It is the perfect event for everyone to show their support to our local fashion designers by wearing one of their creations.

Bev Zizzy

Award Show Entertainer

Bev Zizzy's stage debut was singing early blues classics in a Delta Blues duet. She has led a retro rock band; played extensively with a world rhythm djembe drum group; and performed as a jazz vocalist for a decade.

Lifelong yoga practitioner, adventurous world traveller, andaward winning language and literature teacher, Bev eventually found her true genre as a Singer Songwriter, channelling her extensive experience and talents into guitar study and writingsongs to inspire social conscience, connection, and compassion, performing her music at numerous benefit concerts, and releasing four albums of original material. Bev has been recognized for her community involvement and contribution to the arts with a YWCA Woman of Distinction in the Arts Award.

Bev holds a Master of Education Degree with a speciality in English Literacy, a Bachelor of Education Degree in French, and a Bachelor of Arts Honors Degree in French, Sociology and Women's Studies. Having completed her teaching career in 2013, Bev now divides her time between travel, scuba diving, writing, playing her guitar, and generously sharing her music at home and abroad while continuing her studies of yoga and the Indonesian language, and is now adding Indonesian singer/songwriter covers to her performances. Bev co-produced her fourth original album released on June 17th, 2016, as well as her sold out CD Release Event at Artesian on 13th in Regina on June 25th, 2016.

Whether sharing originals or creative interpretations of covers, Bev Zizzy is a singer/songwriter with something to say, drawing from a lifetime of diverse and profound experiences, and a voice with which to say it well. Her smoky vocal delivery is intense, innovative, and compelling, and her heartfelt, insightful, stories memorable, engaging, and uplifting.

Brian Baggett

Award Show Performer

The only Chapman Stick performer in Saskatchewan, Brian Baggett showcases masterful original compositions and colorfully arranged standards from various genres.

The Chapman Stick, first marketed 1974, is the world’s most well-known two-handed “touchboard” guitar. It was invented by Emmett Chapman (Woodland Hills, CA, USA) to embody this two-handed technique he discovered in 1969: both hands on the fretboard with the instrument in an upright position. No strumming or plucking of strings involved.

Brian has a thirty plus year background in classical, jazz, rock, experimental and improvisatory music. As a solo act with the 10-string Chapman Stick, he brings fluid relevancy between all music genres in a live setting: art openings, weddings, pub entertainment, stage shows, and beyond. Brian Baggett lives in Fort Qu’Appelle, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Originally a French horn player and holding a music degree (Bachelor of Arts with Education emphisis, French Horn – Abilene Christian University 1994), Brian began his Stick playing journey in 1996. “I love this instrument! Unlike the horn with its single note expression, the Stick is like a mini-orchestra at your fingertips…complete with the expressive nuances only offered with amplified fretted stringed instruments. I still feel like a kid at Christmas every day I walk into my studio and see it sitting there.”

Brian Baggett is a native of Houston, Texas (USA) and a 21-year resident of the West Texas city of Abilene. But Saskatchewan is no stranger to him. In Texas, Brian met a girl from Saskatoon and they married in 1998. After twelve years in Abilene, they immigrated to her homeland, settling in Fort Qu’Appelle and the beautiful Qu’Appelle Valley. “I absolutely love it here”, says Brian. “There’s such vast diversity of people and nature all crammed into this quaint 2000-member community. It’s musically inspiring, for sure! I spend my summers biking around town and kayaking the local waterways. And the small but mighty arts community revolving around the Qu’Appelle Valley Centre of the Arts (QVCA) and the yearly Fort Qu’Appelle Mid Summer’s Art Festival are extremely supportive of my music. Who wouldn’t love that?”

Since 1996, Brian has been active in the Stick community and is currently emerging within the Canadian music scene.
