On July 9, 2024 at the Cornwall Centre, the RIFFA Foundation unveiled programming for their 9th annual festival, featuring both in-person and virtual celebrations of premier filmmaking talent from Saskatchewan and around the world. The in-person festival will be in Regina Aug 20-24, 2024.
For the 2024 festival, RIFFA received 521 film submissions from 66 countries. Of those, 112 were named Official selections for RIFFA 2024. That cohort includes 45 directorial debuts, 31 films making their global debut, and 42 making their Canadian debut. It also features 31 female and 6 genderqueer or nonbinary filmmakers and films produced in 27 different languages. The human spirit and stories of our shared experience comes from a kaleidoscopic cross-section of diversity. RIFFA is proud to play a part in celebrating that diversity as we work together to Amplify their Voices.
In addition to returning programming including the Canadian Dialogue series and Outdoor Series, RIFFA 2024 will feature several new events.
- The first ever RIFFA Academy Fundraising Gala will be hosted at the RCMP Heritage Centre. Tables are now available to buy for a dazzling evening of refreshments, networking, and the celebration of emerging filmmakers.
- The Networking Series is a new event that shuttles attendees to a surprise location for exclusive networking experiences in a number of Regina’s signature environs.
- The Saskatchewan Filmmakers Forum is a free public event connecting local filmmakers with one another and local movie lovers interested in the filmmaking of our province.
Said RIFFA President & CEO John Thimothy, “The festival promises to be a platform for creativity, cultural exchange, and the exploration of diverse perspectives. We look forward to welcoming filmmakers, film enthusiasts, and the community at large to this celebratory cultural event.”
