Zahra Moloo
Zahra Moloo is a Kenyan
–
Canadian investigative journalist, documentary filmmaker and
researcher.
Her work focuses on the extractive industries, land rights, biodiversity and
security.
Previously, she worked as a journalist and producer for the
Integrated
Regional Information Networks (IRIN) and as the coordinator for a new documentary
organization in Africa. Her
articles and films have appeared in Al Jazeera, BBC Focus
on Africa magazine, IPS News, CCTV’s Faces of Africa, Africa is a Country, CB
C, and
the Jacobin.
She was a researcher and director with CBC’s Emmy
–
nominated
documentary series,
Interrupt this Program
and in 2018, she directed
Home No More
for
CBC Docs, a film about the
attack on
a Quebec City mosque. She has served on the
juries fo
r the Canadian Screen Awards, the Cuban Hat, and the Festival du Nouveau
Cinéma, and was a recipient of Hot Docs’s Corus Diverse Voices fellowship and the
Talent Lab of the Montreal International Documentary Festival. She is currently
working
on a feature
documentary on conservation in Central Africa.
She holds a BA in History
and Development Studies from McGill University and an MA in Broadcast Journalism
