The Silver Screen Program is one of the Regina International Film Festival & Awards’ (RIFFA) signature community outreach initiatives, created to ensure that meaningful cinematic experiences remain accessible to seniors throughout our community. Guided by the philosophy, “If you can’t reach the festival, the festival reaches you,” the program transforms selected care facilities, retirement residences, and senior living communities into satellite festival venues during RIFFA’s annual 10-day festival.
Through the Silver Screen Program, participating facilities become private screening locations showcasing official RIFFA selections, allowing residents to experience diverse stories, cultures, perspectives, and conversations that are part of the festival. The program provides seniors with an opportunity to engage with independent cinema, celebrate creativity, and participate in the festival experience within the comfort and familiarity of their own communities.
Today, more than 570 senior citizens benefit from the Silver Screen Program, and RIFFA continues to actively expand the initiative to reach even more seniors across Regina and surrounding communities. By removing barriers to participation, the program strengthens social connection, encourages cultural engagement, and reinforces RIFFA’s commitment to inclusion and accessibility.
If your organization serves senior citizens or older adults and would like your facility to become part of the Silver Screen Program, we invite you to contact RIFFA at office@riffa.ca to learn more about eligibility and participation opportunities.
