Masterclass: NOEMI WEIS
Building campaigns for social change: achieving your film’s full potential
Join us for a conversation with Noemi Weis as she reflects on the challenges and rewards of a 20+ career in filmmaking and the power of story-driven documentary to catalyze social change for equity and justice. Focusing on two recent feature documentaries, Milk and Connecting the Dots, Noemi will describe her approach to creating campaigns that seek broader social change, coalition building and audience engagement. Emerging filmmakers are especially encouraged to attend this session as we delve into topics such as: what exactly are ‘impact’ campaigns; at what stages does one determine and implement the strategies and tactics required; how does one ensure that the goals are authentic to the project; how does one acquire the resources that campaigns require; how does one measure the ongoing impact of a film (e.g. documenting and tracking social impact data and self-generated stories) and, how do we ensure a continuous examination of the politics and ethics of our representation of others’ stories.
