In post-war Germany, Hannelore meets Marina, a young Italian. They develop a friendship for which the conservative townspeople, and above all their husbands, have little understanding. A friendship of symbolic character, based on the deep desire of two women for self-determination and mutual support and which has to fend off the constant influence of the other people's motives.
