Puthirai vannaar is an 'unseeable' Dalit caste group, in southern India.Their forced-occupation is to wash clothes of other Dalits, the dead and the menstruating women. This film is a tale about a young girl who grew up in Puthirai vannaar caste group and how she came to be immortalised as their local deity, Maadathy.

After the early demise of her husband, the protagonist of the story Bhanu brought up her two sons all by herself. When the sons got married they moved out leaving Bhanu alone in her husband's ancestral house. Film moves on through the day of her 70th birthday when her sons decide to sell the ancestral property and further unfolding events.

We follow 5 couples in different age groups as they contend with communication challenges, relationships with extended family, differing food habits, financial conflict, interpretation of intimacy, and how their relationships were shaped by the history of mixed relationships in Canada since the 1930’s.
